S&GAD Punjab Issues Instructions on Sanction of long Leave

The Government of the Punjab, Services & General Administration Department (S&GAD), Section (Services-I), has issued instructions regarding the sanction of leave. According to the letter dated August 20, 2026, leave requests beyond 15 days at a stretch are to be discouraged unless there are genuinely justified grounds. The government has also observed that longer periods of absence in one go may reflect negatively on the seriousness of purpose and duty by a public official.
I am directed to refer to the subject noted above and to state that the Competent Authority / Chief Minister, Punjab has desired to discourage leave request beyond 15 days, at a stretch, in any case, unless for genuinely justified grounds. It has further observed that such longer period of leaves of absence in one go, reflect negatively on the seriousness of purpose / duty by a public official.

Punjab Government Issues Instructions Regarding Sanction of Leave
The Government of the Punjab, Services & General Administration Department (S&GAD), Section (Services-I), has issued instructions regarding the sanction of leave for public officials. The letter, bearing No. SI.2-39/2016, is dated August 20, 2026, and was issued from Lahore.
Leave Beyond 15 Days to Be Discouraged
According to the instructions, the Competent Authority / Chief Minister, Punjab, has desired that leave requests beyond 15 days at a stretch should be discouraged in any case, unless there are genuinely justified grounds.
The government has further observed that a longer period of leave or absence in one go may reflect negatively on the seriousness of purpose and duty by a public official.
Instructions to Be Followed
The department has directed the concerned authorities that these instructions may be followed in letter and spirit.
The letter has been addressed to:
1. All Administrative Secretaries to the Government of the Punjab.
2. All Heads of Attached Departments / Autonomous Bodies.
3. All Divisional Commissioners in the Punjab.
4. All Deputy Commissioners in the Punjab.
