Public Schools Reopening 2026: MEAs Ordered to Inspect 100% Schools

The Punjab School Education Department has issued important instructions regarding the reopening of all public schools after the summer vacations. According to the department’s notification dated August 19, 2026, all schools across Punjab are scheduled to reopen on August 24, 2026. District Monitoring Officers have been directed to ensure 100% physical inspection of public schools within their respective jurisdictions before reopening. The inspection will cover cleanliness and general maintenance, classroom furniture, electrical facilities, clean drinking water, washrooms and sanitation, security measures, CCTV cameras, and anti-dengue arrangements. The department has further directed that no school should remain unvisited and that any deficiencies identified during inspection must be reported immediately for rectification on a priority basis.

Subject: INSPECTION OF ALL PUBLIC SCHOOLS REGARDING RE-OPENING ARRANGEMENTS AFTER SUMMER VACATIONS – 2026
Refer to the subject cited above.
2. It is intimated that all schools across Punjab are scheduled to reopen on 24-08-2026 after the summer vacations. In this regard, you are hereby directed to ensure that 100% of public schools falling within your respective jurisdictions are physically inspected by the MEAs prior to reopening. The inspections shall specifically cover the following:
i. Cleanliness and general maintenance of school premises, classrooms, washrooms, playgrounds, lawns roof top and other areas.
ii. Availability and proper condition of furniture in classrooms.
iii. Functional condition of fans, lights, switches, sockets, wiring and other electrical appliances.
iv. Availability of clean drinking water and functional washrooms, sanitation facilities and other essential services.
v. Ensure strict compliance with the security measures/SOPs already conveyed, including the proper functioning and availability of CCTV cameras and other security equipment.
vi. Implementation of anti-dengue measures and elimination of potential mosquito-breeding sites.
3. All MEAs shall ensure 100% physical inspection of the schools assigned to them and complete the prescribed inspection task within the stipulated timeline. No school shall remain un-visited under any circumstances.
4. Moreover, ensure that any deficiency/shortcoming noticed during inspection is immediately reported to the concerned Chief Executive Officer (DEA)/Head of Institution for rectification on priority basis. The status of compliance shall be verified through follow-up inspection wherever required.
5. In view of the above, you are requested to ensure strict implementation of above said directions. The matter may be accorded TOP PRIORITY.
