Schools closed in 22 districts of Punjab due to flood

All educational institutions in 22 specific districts of Punjab, Pakistan, are closed until September 5, 2025, due to severe flooding from the Ravi, Chenab, and Sutlej rivers.

Academic activities are scheduled to resume on September 8, 2025, but this is conditional on the flood and weather conditions improving. The notification, dated August 27, 2025, was issued by the Secretary of the School Education Department.

The following districts are affected by this closure:

Affected Districts

Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Wazirabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Chiniot, Kasur, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Narowal, Okara, Hafizabad, Sargodha, Bahawalnagar, Pakpattan, Vehari, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Multan, Layyah, Kot Addu, and Rajanpur.

Reason for Closure

The closure is due to severe flooding from the Ravi, Chenab, and Sutlej rivers.

Resumption of Activities

Classes are expected to resume on Monday, September 8, 2025. However, this is contingent upon an improvement in the flood and weather situation.

NOTIFICATION

NO. SO (A-1)1-31/2025: In pursuance of the instructions of the Provincial Government, it is hereby notified that all Public & Private Educational Institutions (Schools, Colleges, Universities, Academies, Tuition centres, etc.) in the following Punjab districts are to remain closed until 5th September, 2025 (Friday) due to severe flooding from the Ravi, Chenab, and Sutlej rivers:

Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Wazirabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Chiniot, Kasur, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Narowal, Okara, Hafizabad, Sargodha, Bahawalnagar, Pakpattan, Vehari, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Multan, Layyah, Kot Addu, and Rajanpur.

Resumption of academic activities is scheduled for 8th September, 2025 (Monday), subject to improvement in flood and weather conditions.2. All concerned authorities are directed to ensure compliance of these orders in letter and spirit.Dated, Lahore the 27th August, 2025.
