2.Write short answers to any Four (4) questions:[2 × 4 = 8]
(i)
What is system health monitoring?
Regularly checking CPU, memory, disk, network, temperature and error logs to detect problems early and keep the system running well.
(ii)
Why is data backup important?
Backup protects data from hardware failure, virus attacks, accidental deletion and theft, and lets you restore it when needed.
(iii)
What are Built-in Diagnostic tools? Names some diagnostic tools in Windows.
Built-in diagnostic tools are utilities that come with Windows to find and fix faults. Examples: Task Manager, Resource Monitor, Event Viewer, Performance Monitor, Windows Memory Diagnostic, Reliability Monitor and CHKDSK.
(iv)
What is Event viewer? How can we open it?
Event Viewer is a Windows tool that records system, application and security events, errors and warnings. Open it by pressing Windows + R, typing eventvwr and pressing Enter.
(v)
Why is Safe Mode with Networking useful?
It starts Windows with basic drivers plus network support, so you can download drivers and updates, run online scans and search for solutions while troubleshooting.
(vi)
What is a restore point? Why are they important?
A restore point is a saved snapshot of system files, settings and registry. It is important because it lets you undo a bad update, driver or software installation without losing personal files.
3.Write short answers to any Four (4) questions:[2 × 4 = 8]
(i)
How can you check partition style?
Open Disk Management → right-click the disk (e.g. Disk 0) → Properties → Volumes tab → see “Partition style” (MBR or GPT).
(ii)
What Precautions should be followed when using safe mode?
Do not use it for normal work, do not install unknown software, change only the settings needed to fix the problem, back up important data first, and restart normally when finished.
(iii)
How many types of firmware are there?
In computers there are two main types: BIOS (legacy) and UEFI (modern). In general, firmware is also classed as low-level, high-level and subsystem firmware.
(iv)
How can we change the boot order?
Restart the PC and press the setup key (F2, Del, F12 or Esc) → open the Boot tab → move the required device to the top → press F10 to save and exit.
(v)
Define File Recovery Methods.
Ways of getting back lost or deleted files: restoring from the Recycle Bin, Previous Versions, File History or backup, Windows File Recovery, and third-party software such as Recuva, EaseUS or Tenorshare.
(vi)
What are the limitations of life recovery.
Data that has been overwritten cannot be recovered, success is not guaranteed, damaged or fragmented files may be incomplete, SSDs with TRIM make recovery difficult, and physically damaged drives need professional help.
4.Write short answers to any Four (4) questions:[2 × 4 = 8]
(i)
What is meant by system documentation?
Written records of a system’s hardware, software, settings, changes, repairs and licences, used to help future maintenance and troubleshooting.
(ii)
Define the use of Safe Mode in system recovery.
Safe Mode loads only essential drivers and services, so faulty drivers, malware or bad software can be found and removed when Windows will not start normally.
(iii)
Why is the boot order setting important when using recovery tools from a USB drive?
The computer must check the USB drive first; otherwise it boots from the hard disk and the recovery tools do not load.
(iv)
What is Post troubleshooting maintenance?
Steps taken after a problem is fixed: testing that it works, updating records, taking backups, installing updates and applying measures to prevent the problem from returning.
(v)
How can we use saved restore point?
Search “Create a restore point” → System Protection → System Restore → Next → select the restore point → Next → Finish. The PC restarts and returns to that state.
(vi)
What does Tenorshare do?
Tenorshare makes software tools, such as 4DDiG, that recover lost or deleted files from computers and storage devices, and also tools for Windows repair and password reset.
NOTE:- Give Detailed Answer of any TWO Questions.[8×2=16]
5.
Your computer is not starting properly due to a system issue. Describe how System Restore or a bootable recovery USB can be used to fix the problem without deleting personal files.
System Restore: 1) Restart and open Advanced Startup Options (press F8/Shift + F8, or Windows fails to start three times). 2) Choose Troubleshoot → Advanced options → System Restore. 3) Select the account and choose a restore point made before the problem. 4) Click Next → Finish. Windows returns to the earlier state; personal files are not deleted, but apps installed after that point are removed. Bootable recovery USB: 1) Create the USB with the Media Creation Tool or Rufus. 2) Insert it and set USB first in the boot order. 3) Boot, choose language and click “Repair your computer”. 4) Use Startup Repair, System Restore or Command Prompt to fix boot files. Choosing repair (not “Reset” or a clean install) keeps personal files.
6.
Briefly explain any two preventive maintenance techniques that help to keep a computer running smoothly.
1) Disk Cleanup and Defragmentation: removing temporary and junk files frees space, and defragmenting an HDD arranges files so they load faster (SSDs use TRIM). 2) Updates and Antivirus Scans: installing Windows and driver updates fixes bugs and security holes, and regular scans remove malware. Other techniques: regular backups, cleaning dust, and managing startup programs.
7.
What is post troubleshooting maintenance explain impact of poor maintenance.
Post troubleshooting maintenance means the actions done after a fault is repaired: testing that the system works properly, recording the problem and its solution, taking a backup, updating software and drivers, and applying preventive steps so the issue does not return. Impact of poor maintenance: slow performance, frequent crashes and errors, malware infection, data loss, hardware overheating and early failure, higher repair costs and more downtime.
