Punjab Schools Cut Timings to Just Two Hours as Mid-Term Exams Begin

LAHORE — The Punjab government has significantly reduced school timings to just two hours per day starting December 8, while also releasing the Mid-Term SBA 2025-26 date sheet and the province-wide winter vacation schedule for all educational institutions.

The Punjab Education Initiatives Management Authority has announced the revised school timings and issued the official date sheet for the Mid-Term School-Based Assessment (SBA) 2025-26 for students of Grades 1 to 8. The first SBA exam is scheduled for December 12, 2025.

Revised School Timings Effective December 8

According to the latest notification, all schools across Punjab will operate on significantly reduced hours beginning December 8. The morning shift will run from 9:30 am to 11:30 am, limiting instruction time to only two hours per day. Meanwhile, the afternoon shift will operate from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and on Fridays, from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm. The name of these two hours is Happy Hours. This timing is only for Primary Schools and Primary porition of Elementary, High and higher schools in Punjab. The students shall perform any activity in which they feel happy.

Punjab Winter Vacations Announced

The Punjab Education Department has also released the official winter vacation schedule for 2025. All public and private schools will remain closed from December 23, 2025, to January 10, 2026. The unified schedule ensures that all educational institutions follow the same holiday timeline across the province.

Mid-Term SBA Exams 2025-26

The mid-term exams ( Schools Based Assessment 2025) for Grades 1 to 8 will be administered as per the date sheet issued by the Punjab Education Initiatives Management Authority ( PEIMA Lahore). School Based Assessment SBA datesheet 2025 issued by PECTAA Punjab Lahore. According to SBA Datesheet 2025, the papers will start from December 8, 2025. The all Govt. Schools are bound to follow SBA Date sheet 2025-26. Parents are advised to prepare according to the new schedule and shortened school hours.
