Punjab Teachers Leave Policy 2026 – New Instructions
Revised leave rules for Govt Employees in Punjab

The Punjab School Education Department has issued instructions regarding the sanction of leave for government employees in Punjab. According to the letter dated 11 October 2026, leave requests exceeding 15 consecutive days should generally be discouraged unless there are genuinely justified grounds. The instructions emphasize careful examination of leave applications, strict compliance with applicable government rules, and approval through the prescribed procedure. These directions have been circulated to relevant education authorities and Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of District Education Authorities across Punjab. Government teachers and education department employees should review the instructions and follow the applicable leave rules before submitting their applications.

I am directed to refer to the subject cited above and to enclose herewith a copy of letter No. S1.2-39/2016 dated 20th August, 2026, received from the Section Officer (Services-I), S&GAD and to state that the Competent Authority / Chief Minister, Punjab has desired to discourage leave request beyond 15 days, at a stretch, in any case, unless for genuinely justified grounds. It has observed that such longer period of leaves of absence in one go, reflect negatively on the seriousness of purpose/duty by a public official.
2. I am further directed to request you to ensure strict compliance with the instructions as mentioned in above referred letter in true letter and spirit. Leave cases shall be examined carefully, and requests for leave exceeding 15 days at a stretch shall be considered only on genuinely justified grounds, in accordance with the applicable rules and prescribed procedure.
