GOVERNMENT OF THE PUNJAB
DIRECTORATE OF STAFF DEVELOPMENT
NOTE FOR SECRETARY SCHOOL EDUCATION
Subject: PROPOSALS REGARDING CHANGE IN EXISTING TEACHING
TIMETABLE FOR CLASS 1-3 w.e.f. APRIL 01 2015
Directorate of Staff Development has initiated Continuous Professional Development (CPD) framework for primary school teachers (PST’s), approved by the Government of the Punjab, to improve the quality of education. DSD always put its utmost efforts for the quality education and takes quality initiatives for the improvement in existing education system.
- As per the existing paper pattern of PEC. the paper comprises of 70% Objective and 30% subjective. It has been observed that students prefer to attempt the objective portion while the subjective part is being neglected which results in lack of concept clarity and comprehension in English & Urdu Subjects among the students. This practice is harming the efforts to enhance the quality learning and to produce better students.
- Whereas, if the existing pattern is changed by including the subjective portion in greater percentage than objective part, it may result in failure of more student which may lead to drop out. This thing will effect to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and commitment of School Education Department to achieve 100% enrollment in Government schools as per Chief Minister’s Road Map and vision of Govt of the Punjab.
- Keeping in view, the results of study conducted by DFID regarding Literacy and Numeracy Drive and after detailed discussion/ consultation a Daily Schedule/ Timetable for Class 1-3 is prepared on the basis of practices being executed in United Kingdom and Singapore. The proposed Timetable for Class 1-3 from next academic calendar w.e.f. April 01,2015 is as follows:
|Zero Period||Tilawat + Naat + Dua + Message + National Anthem||Tilawat + Naat + Dua + Message + National Anthem|
|First Period||English||Revision of yesterday/ Assessment (Oral + Written)|
|Second Period||Social Studies / Arts & Crafts||Spelling (English + Urdu)|
|Third Period||Mathematics||Writing (English + Urdu + Math)|
|Fourth Period||Science / General Knowledge||Mathematics|
|Sixth Period||Islarniat / PT||Physical Education/ Drawing / Art Work (On Alternate Day)
Group Work / Project Work / Community Work (On Alternate Day)
|Seventh Period||Reading( ENG + Urdu) / Library||Reading( English + Urdu + Maths)|
|Eighth Period||Writing ( ENG + Urdu) / Drawing||Language Speaking (Urdu + English) (25 Minutes)|
|Daily Mile-Walk / Run (Teacher + Students) (15 Minutes)|
5. Furthermore, it is submitted that we are now focusing only on imparting Education through books (Curriculum). However, Education from books is only 50% and remaining 50% is Personality Development (Tarbiat) which has been ignored altogether The textbooks have become more and more heavy and students / teachers are only focusing on it by ignoring basic requirement of reading (Spellings) and writing. Furthermore. Physical Education provides focus not only on health but also on discipline and sportsman spirit. Art work/ drawing create habits of creativity among students. which we have ignored. Similarly, personality development also involves social work/ community work which we used to have in the form of gills guide, scouting, group work etc which nave been ignored. This important aspect is necessary for development of a responsible citizen and important part of society It is therefore. dire need to reintroduce those skills. which not only focus on education (spelling, writing, reading etc) but also personality development (physical Education, spoils drawing. community work etc)
6 In light of above mentioned facts, the proposals at Para 4/N may be
approved, please. Accordingly all EDO (Education) will be requested to focus on both aspects of education i.e Taleem and Tarbiat.
